“Fire and Rain”, apărută pe albumul “Sweet Baby James” (1990),  este piesa  care a atras pentru prima oară atenţia publicului larg asupra atistului. La scurt timp după apariţie, cântecul a urcat rapid pe locul al treilea în topul Bilboard.
